Broccoli Rabe


Broccoli Rabe, also known as Rapini or Broccoletti, is a common vegetable in the cuisines of Southern Italy (in particular Basilicata , Puglia and Sicily), Galicia, China, and Portugal. The plant is a member of the Brassiceae tribe of the Brassicaceae, a large ranging nutritious group of vegetables that also contains cabbage, kale, brussel sprouts and many other healthy plants.

Some advise that broccoli rabe or broccolini can be very bitter if it's late in the season or overgrown, but members of this CSA will not likely encounter that problem.  If for whatever reason it strikes you as too bitter, you can simply blanche it in boiling water for a minute and then use it as prescribed.  Broccolini and polenta is a great combo - very Italian.
